  1. Goodbye

    Leeds 1-3 Man City

    That's all from me tonight.

The Premier League is well and truly back and our first round of fixtures following the World Cup break is complete.

At the end of it, Arsenal still have their five-point lead but Manchester City have shown tonight that they're ready to take advantage of any slip-ups over the coming weeks.

You can read Phil Dawkes' report on City's 3-1 win at Elland Road over here.

If you need to catch up with the latest Premier League news, including Liverpool's agreement to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, head here.

We'll be back with live text commentary here on the BBC Sport on Friday as the final Premier League fixtures of the year begin.

    Catch you then!

  2. Coming up this week

You have just tomorrow to take in all that has happened in the first three days of Premier League action following the World Cup break, before we get to do it all again.

Here's what you have to look forward to as the final fixtures of 2022 take place from Friday...

  3. 'Great night'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Jack Grealish says this result was a gift for City fans after he presented Erling Haaland with two second-half goals.

  4. 'We have to score goals'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Premier League: Haaland double fires Man City up to second (2)

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has joked to Amazon Prime that he is "so upset" about Haaland's misses.

"It was more difficult in the second half than the first - that's my point of view. Wasted opportunities are part of the game. In this stadium, against a team who have been able to play really well against top teams like Arsenal and Liverpool, it's a big compliment for the guys in their first Premier League game after the World Cup."

On Jack Grealish's performance: "Grealish gave two brilliant assists. When we can rest the ball with Jack and Riyad, it gives us the right tempo. But of course, we have to score goals. When the chances are there, it's important. It's a mental question. We know from training sessions that he has the ability to put the ball in the net. Of course he's not a striker, but he has the ability to do it. He just has to say 'I'm going to score' - there's no negativity in his mind. When that happens, he is going to score goals."

And on 18-year-old Rico Lewis: "Without Rico, what we do would be impossible. Defensively, he is so smart, understands the game and is so clever. That's why he helps us to do our dynamics so much better. He has played really, really well. He's an absolute reality for us."

  5. Post update

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Well, that really is just terrifying for all the other 19 Premier League clubs, isn't it?

A "not at his best" Erling Haaland is up to 20 league goals for the season, even though we've not yet reached January - and we've just had a six-week break.

    Goodness me.

  6. Premier League: Haaland double fires Man City up to second (3)

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport at Elland Road

Pep Guardiola has just come into the post-match press conference and said Erling Haaland is 'not at his best'.

His point is that Haaland has not got his sharpness back after his recent injury.

  7. 'Haaland's ability is uncanny'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Premier League: Haaland double fires Man City up to second (4)

    Leeds United

Here's what Leeds manager Jesse Marsch made of it all, speaking to BBC Sport:

"One thing you know about Man City is that they are able to manipulate the game with possession and unbalance you but they were able to get us on the transition twice and there was a give away from us which gifted them a goal. It was a little disappointing, the timing of the goals.

"When City get out of too many tight spaces, they catch you on the other side and make you run a lot and then it becomes a battle of attrition and they get their chance because we are tired. We could have won more balls for sure.

On Erling Haaland: "Haaland has an uncanny ability to know where to be to score goals and a hunger like I have never seen before. It is infectious in the team. It is a desire that spreads through the team.

"I don't know whether Man City are my favourites for the league but Haaland is one of my favourite players to watch.

"We have work to do, we need to get a couple of guys healthy but I want to get our heads down to get better and not be in a relegation battle. We need to work hard."

  8. Get Involved - 'Haaland madness'

Tweet using #bbcfootball or Text 81111 (UK standard rates apply)

Oba Olusegun: Madness! No way he won’t bag 40 goals this season.

Femi: Yes, but has he scored against Stoke City on a cold winter's night in January yet?

  9. 'He is an exceptional guy'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Here's a bit more from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Amazon Prime about Erling Haaland:

"We are delighted with how humble he is.

"He's an exceptional guy with his work ethic and professionalism. It's a great threat to our opponents, having him there."

  10. 'Grealish has to be more ambitious'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Premier League: Haaland double fires Man City up to second (5)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC: "We played really well against this team in this stadium. We made a great performance in the second half when they were a bit more open.

"After the World Cup, nobody knows how we were going to react and the way Leeds were playing lately. Today with the ball we were brilliant.

"The relationship between Rico Lewis and Rodri was brilliant in the middle of the pitch.

On Jack Grealish's performance: "Grealish made two assists, he allowed us to give an extra pass when he had it. With Riyad [Mahrez] and Jack the tempo was better. But he has to be more ambitious, he has to score more goals and be competitive because he has the quality to do it.

On Haaland: "He scored a lot of goals but he could have scored more. He help us a lot."

  11. Ederson reaches wins landmark

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

He's been somewhat overshadowed tonight and would undoubtedly have preferred a clean sheet, but City goalkeeper Ederson's become a record-breaker - and by some distance.

The Brazilian has won 150 of his 197 Premier League games, becoming the first player to reach 150 wins in fewer than 200 appearances in the competition’s history.

  12. 'We need to get ourselves out of these situations'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Premier League: Haaland double fires Man City up to second (6)

    Leeds United

Leeds midfielder Brenden Aaronson speaking to BBC Sport: "It's tough because that goal at the end of the first half was a gut punch. We need to get better in some instances.

On Gelhardt's chance to get a second goal for Leeds: "There's a lot of what ifs but we are getting themselves into these situations and we need to get ourselves out of them.

"We need to get better in the transitions and I think we have longer on the ball than we think we do.

"We're not focused on the table, we need to get better. I think with the ball we can work on some things.

On Manchester City's Erling Haaland: "Haaland has a huger to score goals, he made a 30-40 yard run to score a tap in. He has a want for goals and not a lot of players have it but he does and that's special.

"For us we just have to focus on the next game and get after it."

  13. 'I'm more hungry than ever'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Premier League: Haaland double fires Man City up to second (7)

    Manchester City

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, speaking to Amazon Prime Video on his goal target for the season: "I have a target but I cannot say it. I just said inside the dressing room that I could have scored five but the most important thing is that we won.

"We see Arsenal at the top now and we have to hunt them. For me, as a striker, I have to score more. I could have scored a couple more but that's life and I have to train more.

"I've been at home, a bit mad that I've not been at the World Cup. I recharged my batteries.

"Watching other people score to win games at the World Cup triggered, motivated and irritated me. I'm more hungry and more ready than ever.

On playing against Leeds at Elland Road: "My father and mother were on the tribune today. It's special. I'm happy - it's a special moment in my career. When I was young, I had an Eirik Bakke shirt in my room and a jersey of my father. In my craziest fantasy, I couldn't think of being at Elland Road and scoring for Manchester City against Leeds."

  14. A lightning century

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Two goals in one match tonight. How many more Premier League games will Erling Haaland need to contribute to another 100?

  15. Post update

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Meanwhile, defeat means Leeds remain two points above the relegation places - although they have a game in hand still on the five sides below them.

  16. Five-point gap

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

The gap is back down to five points for Manchester City as they look to chase down leaders Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola's side move back above Newcastle into second - having also played a game fewer than the Magpies.

  17. 'Haaland has good quality behind him'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Premier League: Haaland double fires Man City up to second (10)

    Nedum Onuoha

Former Manchester City defender on Amazon Prime

It's not bad to walk away with two goals and know you could have scored more. That's the way Man City play. Haaland makes good runs and he has good quality behind him. I thought Kevin De Bruyne was magnificent today.

Two goals is great and 20 goals at this stage of the season is not bad at all.

  18. 'Haaland is so, so confident'

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Premier League: Haaland double fires Man City up to second (11)

    Steve Stone

Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Haaland doesn't get involved in the game that much; he's just occupying the two centre-halves and they're so wary of him pulling off their shoulders that his runs create space for everybody else. That's where those Manchester City players get all that space.

When the ball does come to him, he finishes with aplomb. He is so, so confident in front of goal.

  19. Haaland's incredible record

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

Twenty goals and three assists in 14 Premier League games.

Twenty six goals in 20 club appearances this season.

Erling Haaland is showing no signs of slowing down following his outstanding start to life at Manchester City.

  20. A tale of two halves for Grealish

    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

It will be interesting to hear what, if anything, Pep Guardiola said to Jack Grealish at half-time.

After a first-half in which he missed several great chances, he returned from the interval to provide two assists for Erling Haaland.

Full reaction from both teams to come!
