Surfline has acquired surf forecasting competitor Magicseaweed, the company announced this morning.

Magicseaweed has joined the Surfline family.

Due to its easy access and warm water for seven to eight months of the year, Wrightsville Beach is an ideal place to embrace the surfing lifestyle.

MSW, which was created in Kingsbridge, south Devon in 2002, was bought by Surfline in 2017. Ben Freeston, founder of MSW, told BBC News losing the name was "emotional", but he was "excited for the future". MSW provides forecasts at more than 4,500 beaches around the world with 2m users a month.

MagicSeaweed was acquired along with Stab Magazine on 22nd May 2015 for a combined total cash consideration of AUD$13.8 million and 4.8 million shares in SurfStitch. The new buyers of MagicSeaweed are US-based surf forecasting site Surfline.

Generally speaking the perfect size for beginners is 1 to 2ft. For intermediates: 2-4ft waves are best as it gives you more face of the wave to progress your skills on. You should keep an eye on the 'Swell Period', because it's a lot more indicative of the actual wave size (see the next point).

Not necessarily — it depends on where you plan to surf. High tides are great if you're headed towards a reef break. The only exception is if it's near a bluff, in which case the waves rarely break before hitting land. Conversely, medium to low tides are better if you're surfing near a beach break.

Totally! Of all the great beaches in SC, none is better for surfing than Folly Beach, a natural barrier island just eight miles from Charleston. It lays claim to some of the biggest and most bodacious swells on the East Coast.

You can catch nice flounder and red drum inshore, using live bait and light tackle. Right off the beach, plenty of Spanish mackerel are waiting. A little further out, summer kings wait to test your angling skills.

No glass containers of any kind are allowed on the beach strand. Fires and cooking devices are not allowed on the shore, as Town ordinance prohibits any open flames in public areas, (which includes the beaches.) Alcohol consumption and open containers of alcohol are not allowed year-round on the beaches year-round.

Canopies and Tents

Canopies, umbrellas, and changing tents are generally allowed on Wrightsville Beach, but can NOT be left overnight.

For more information about surfing at Wrightsville Beach, check with a lifeguard. When the checkered flags designating No Surfing areas in front of lifeguard stands are posted, kiteboarders shall stay at least 100 yards offshore from these areas. Some no Surfing areas in the middle of the island are extensive.
